Inaugural AFS Webinar
10 Oct, 2024
The inaugural Asian Fisheries Society webinar, "The Asian Fisheries Society and its activities", was hosted by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) on 27 August 2024, following the lead of the Asian Fisheries Social Sciences Network (AFSSRN), the Fish Health Section (FHS) and the Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries Section (GAFS) of AFS. The webinar provided a forum of information sharing and discussion of AFS and three of its components (AFSSRN, FHS and GAFS) with four 15-minute presentations (AFS – President Neil Loneragan; AFSSRN – Chair Marieta Sumagaysay; FHS – Chair Kua Beng Chu; GAFS – Chair Nikita Gopal). The presentations were followed by a moderated question-and-answer session and live feedback from the participants. The word cloud below shows some of the responses recorded. The number of participants during the presentation ranged from 137 to 144, a subset is shown in two screen captures below. All participants who answered the evaluation form received a certificate of participation. The webinar was moderated by Prof. Alice Ferrer, Immediate Past President of AFS from UPV who also introduced the series and the resource people for this webinar. AFS thanks UPV and Prof. Alice for arranging and supporting the webinar.
